To become a driving instructor you will need to NOT have any major criminal convictions spent or pending (some convictions will be considered by the DVSA), you MUST have held a full UK or a European license for at least 3 years, have no MORE than 6 points on your driving license and can read a number plate at a distance of 27.5 meters.
In order to qualify as a driving instructor you must under go 3 tests, after passing the first 2 out of the 3 test you are ready to become a driving instructor and start teaching and earning.

What is expected of me on the day of the ADI theory test?
The ADI theory test will take approximately 1 hour 45 minutes. it Is similar to your learner theory test you have taken.
The Theory test is completely computer based, contains multiple choice questions and there is a hazard perception element to the test too. You must pass both parts to the test in order to pass your ADI theory test.
The fee for the part 1 theory test payable to the DVSA is £81.
What the theory contains
On The multiple choice part of the theory test you will be asked 100 questions in total you must achieve an overall score of at least 85 out of 100 on this part.
On the hazard perception part of the ADI theory test you must score a minimum of 57 points out of 75 to pass the test.
We will cover the entire DVSA syllabus throughout your training the course and provide you with a written assessment each day to enable you to progress. With continued practice in your own car for your part 2 ADI qualifying test this coupled with our expert guidance, you will be amazed at just how quickly your driving skills will improve and hence following many past advance driving test candidates and passing first time!.
What to expect at ADI PART 2 TEST.
This is very similar to the learner driver test, you are however, expected to drive at a more advance level. Your driving test will include motorway driving and will be expected to drive at a very high standard unlike the regular Ltest – this is reflected on the fact that you are only allowed 6 driver faults, therefore seven or more driver tests will result in a fail AT PART 2 . Just like the learner driver test – A SINGLE serious or dangerous driving faults marked will also result in a fail instantly!
The fee for the ADI practical test is £111.
The ADI driving instructor test (Part 2) will include:
- Eye sight test and Vehicle safety questions.
- Moving off (including at an angle) and stopping both on the left and right hand sides of the road.
- Emergency stop.
- Hill starts (up and down)
- Corner reverse (Left and right)
- Parallel park/ reversing into parking bay.
- Motorway, country and town driving.
